He thought that in going to Blackpool to do a crime, he would either get away with it, or be jailed away from home.
The ball bearing gun had been bought and covered in black tape to make it appear more realistic.
Defending Philip Holden said: “It was a fairly amateurish attempt at a bank robbery. It was a bungled attempt.
“Ironically he has become the subject of some ridicule, as a result of the video being posted on the internet.

“Had he thought about what he was doing, he might not have decided to rob a bank on a Saturday when Blackpool Football Club were at home and the town centre was awash with police officers.”
He was sentenced to six years and four months.
