He added: “We need to look at the whole care of children from when they arrive in this country totally terrified, having suffered all sorts of trauma, with no family of next of kin and then being dispersed all over the place.
“To have had this horrific journey and then the process of dispersal, where they are taken to four different cities, there is no chance of anybody giving them the care and attention we would want our professional social workers to give.”
According to Mr Basi, one ‘widespread’ practice is where some authorities, particularly in London, are housing children in the Midlands to save money.
In one example, a child who was under the responsibility of Lewisham Council was sent to live in Coventry because it was cheaper.
