Dr Raj Mattu cleared after seven year wait

Mar 26 2009

HEART doctor Raj Mattu has been cleared of all charges - seven years after he was suspended by a Walsgrave Hospital.

Dr Mattu was sent home by the health trust which ran Walsgrave Hospital in February 2002 following allegations of bullying.

He was suspended less than six months after becoming a whistle-blower and voicing his fears about dangerous levels of overcrowding at the hospital.

Now Dr Mattu’s supporters have condemned the reported £5 million the hospital trust spent taking disciplinary action against him.

This included an internal inquiry, a high court battle and more than 200 complaints to the health watchdog the General Medical Council (GMC).

Dr Mattu was finally reinstated at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Trust (UHCW) in June 2007 but hospital bosses continued to pursue their complaints through the GMC.

His seven year battle for justice has taken a heavy toll on Dr Mattu.
