Jay McKee, aged 10, said: “We get to do loads of activities and it is fun for all of us. I enjoy coming here because it means I don’t just have to stay at home and I’ve made friends here.

“We have started a Facebook campaign to get people to save the Tooth and loads of people have signed up.”

Sophie Etheridge, 12, who has been attending the Tooth for four years, added: “The staff here are really nice.

They organise activities and take us out on trips which gets a lot of these kids off the streets. It is something to do after school and we all love it.

“If we don’t save this there will be nowhere else for us to go and there will be a lot of people on the street causing trouble.”

The centre will close on March 8 if extra funding is not found.

To offer help contact Teresa Ratcliffe, YMCA operations director, on 024 7659 7009.
