READING the letters pages recently – Councillors Jim O’Boyle and John Mutton having a go at the Tories at local and national level – I would remind them that every Labour Government since the last war has brought this country to its knees financially – with overspending, borrowing and a reckless disregard for balancing the books. Gordon Brown’s New Labour lot is no exception.
Brown has previously boasted about ‘prudence’ and ending ‘boom and bust’ – but he is a man of ‘smokescreen and mirrors’ and has used ‘stealth taxes’ to chip away at people’s money.
He sold all the UK’s gold at the lowest price, taxed pensions via his dividend tax, created a complex tax credit system that has caused hardship to young mothers and kids, and I could go on...
Cllrs O’Boyle and Mutton were part of a Labour council which made a mess of the 23 years that Labour held power in Coventry – that’s why the Tories are now making a reasonable job of sorting it out and keeping down costs for the hard-pressed taxpayer at local and national level.
