I WAS pleased to read of the renewed friendship links between Coventry and Belgrade as my wife and I were fortunate enough to be at the opening show at the Belgrade Theatre in 1958.
I must point out that in your “potted history” of Belgrade, Serbia and Yugoslavia, you fail to mention the more recent civil war in the region when atrocities were carried out on all sides.
Serbia was adjudged by Western powers, wearing their blue UN helmets, to be at fault and Belgrade was bombed.
Many civilians were killed, including people working in the city’s television studios. How sad, I thought, remembering Serbia’s heroic resistance to the Nazis during the Second World War.
