I ATTENDED on December 19 the ceremony in Tile Hill, in memory of PC Gavin Carlton, 20 years after he was murdered there.
As the Chief Constable of the West Midlands said, it reminded us of the risks that the police take in protecting us.
As with any other human organisation, occasional mistakes occur, but, for those who criticise, I ask: Would you put yourself at such risk? Can you imagine the chaos if they were not there? I also greatly admire the West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service, with whom I am connected as a member of the Fire and Rescue Authority, and the Ambulance Service. We are fortunate to have men and women of such dedication and courage safeguarding us.
