Leicester Phoenix 34 Coventry Bears 30

COVENTRY Bears regained some pride in defeat at Leicester Phoenix on Saturday.

Leicester took the lead when their former Coventry player coach Ty Watson crashed over after three minutes.

Five minutes later Coventry prop Simon Stubbs powered over under the posts to bring the Bears back into the game.

After Leicester regained the lead, the Bears responded through ex Leicester’s Carl Wesley.

Just before the half time whistle Leicester broke the deadlock to go in to the break 18-12 leaders. When Leicester opened the scoring to give them a 12 point lead, it was beginning to look ominous for the Bears. Dean Thompson restored to centre having played at full back for the last two weeks scored in the right hand corner.

With 15 minutes left to play Simon Stubbs went in for his second of the afternoon. Not to be outdone Wesley added his second and the Bears were back in the game at 24 points all.
