HOLLYWOOD and West End actor Sir Ben Kingsley will be able to relate to a forthcoming stage production in Warwick.
His son Edmund, who was in his final year at Warwick School when Sir Ben laid the foundation stone of the school’s Bridge House Theatre, is returning to play the role of Jacques in Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
Edmund, 25, now treads the boards as a professional actor after leaving Warwick School to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in Bloomsbury, London.
He said: “The theatre is a fantastic venue and a wonderful facility for the school.
“It was quite different in my day, with plays and concerts being staged in the hall.”
Nothing is being left to chance with rehearsals lasting up to nine hours a day.
Edmund spent 14 months at the RSC in Stratford, playing roles in Julius Caesar, Anthony and Cleopatra and The Tempest.
He has also performed at regional theatres with national touring companies and appeared in films and on TV.
Edmund wants people who may never have been to the theatre or seen a Shakespeare play to see the production.
He said: “As You Like It has a good story and a magical atmosphere. It has jokes, great music, dancing, even wrestling - and as we are staging the play in such an intimate theatre everyone in the audience should be immersed in the action.”
The two-hour play is being directed by Alison Sutcliffe, a former RSC director. It has a distinguished cast and creative team.
