Girl, 16, bit and slapped her mum Jun 19 2008
A NUNEATON teenager who assaulted her mother has been placed under the supervision of the Youth Offending Service for three months and given a 12-hour reparation order. Both will run alongside an existing 12-month supervision order. The 16-year-old, who appeared before Nuneaton Youth Court, admitted assaulting her mother in Bedworth a week earlier.Prosecutor Kaya Ball said the girl and her boyfriend slept on a sofa in the garden of her mother’s home. When the mother thought they were arguing and intervened, the girl slapped her across the face, pulled her hair and bit one of the woman’s fingers. Both fell to the floor.Miss Ball said the assault happened when the girl was on supervision for handling stolen goods and making a false representation to gain benefit. In mitigation, John Mohamed said the girl’s mother was not happy about her boyfriend being in the house. “On the day in question she [the girl] and her boyfriend got up early because he had to go to work. And the mother said she was unhappy about them making noise.”Mr Mohamed said: “As [the girl] went to go into the house, her mother grabbed her by the throat and they grabbed each other’s hair.”The girl, who moved to live in Nuneaton from Bedworth after the assault, agreed that she over-reacted but had not used drugs for four or five weeks, added Mr Mohamed. She told the court: “We were both as bad as each other, really.” Presiding magistrate, Sue Robertson, told the girl: “You have come to court for an assault and you know that behaviour is not acceptable.” more
