AN ENTREPRENEUR from Bedworth is helping couples prepare for the biggest day of their lives - by using their mobile phones. Kimberley Naughton has moved into the world of wedding planning but has taken the industry a step further and into the generation of phone applications. The 23-year-old set up her company i-Wed last year which offers customers an app for iPhones and Android devices with wedding business information, promotions and a full-blown wedding directory. Kimberley said: “I started working on iWed about six months ago although the idea itself I’ve been working on for 18 months. “I’ve been qualified as a wedding planner for two years and the idea comes from you always have to be on the internet to reach anyone. It’s easier to just have it on your phone. “The new app has been available for six weeks and we’ve had 1,200 downloads – that’s nearly triple from what it was on the trial app at the same time. “My partner is a web designer and he has helped me. We’ve had some really fantastic feedback.” Many people of Kimberley’s age have just left university or are still finding their feet in the working world, but the young businesswoman couldn‘t be happier with life in the business world. Kimberley said: “When you’re running your own business you get the stresses but you also get the benefits. “The best benefit is the feeling of self-worth - to know that you’ve come up with an idea from scratch and to know that people love that idea. It’s time consuming, but it’s well worth it. “I love working for my company, but I’d love to do to this full-time. You get to be part of the biggest day of someone’s life. I’m a hopeless romantic. It’s just being able to take the pressure off someone else and let them enjoy the day.” And despite the economic downturn, Kimberley believes that the sky is the limit. She said: “It is a hard time, all businesses are finding it hard. “But we are so low at the moment, the only way is up. I’m up for a challenge. “In the future I’d like to take it to America. I’ve had lots of people asking when the US version is coming out, but I want the UK version to be more settled.” For more information go to www.i-wed.co or email info@i-wed.co |
