BREAKING NEWS: Contaminated waste plant application is withdrawn

Final victory for the Tribune's Dump It! campaign

THE FINAL nail in the coffin of the proposed contaminated waste plant has been hammered home with the news that company TCSR have withdrawn their application. Although Judkins landowner Waste Recycling Group had decided not to allow TCSR permission to use the land for that purpose, the planning application had remained with Warwickshire County Council's regulatory committee. Many felt the company would continue to the application's conclusion in order to set a precedent for any other site they may pick at a later date. Others were concerned that WRG could change its mind in the future. A development control forum was due to be held at Manor Park Community School to discuss the plan on Saturday, but this has now been cancelled after TCSR withdrew the application. Keith Kondakor, of Friends of the Earth, who was one of the major players in the campaign, said: "We talked to people about this in May and they said it's impossible to change what's happening but we've done that, we've done the impossible. "It was so wrong from the start and what we've done is fantastic." A petition launched by the Tribune under the title of Dump It! collected 9,000 signatures in an amazing show of people power. It prompted politicians to open discussions with WRG on a different use for the land on Tuttle Hill, and plans are now in the pipeline for light industrial use and housing.
