Bernie Cope targets Shepshed pair to strengthen Greenbacks squad

BERNIE Cope’s not being left out in the cold despite the icy spell as he continues to build his squad with the imminent signing of a defender and striker, both experienced at Zamaretto Midland Division level.
The Greenbacks chief is set to bring in former Atherstone Town left-back Dominic Reece while up front Danny Gaunt is believed to be ready to sign for United.
Both players are currently on Shepshed Dynamo’s books but it seems as though the pair are eager to move on and Cope has pounced swiftly to get them on board at The Oval.
“Dom is a left-sided player and knows what it’s all about at our level,” said Cope, who is in his fifth week as manager but has yet to play a game at home.
“At present we have no-one to push or cover for Sam Shilton so it was crucial we got someone in who we know could a job and that’s Dom. He’s reliable and if he joins will be a major asset in the weeks ahead.”
Gaunt, who was with Reece at Adders last term and part of their League Cup winning side, would offer more scoring ammunition and it’s no surprise he’s expected to be Bedworth-bound as the youngster is rated highly by Cope.
“The lad’s got ability and it’s up to me and my management staff to bring it out of him.
“He has the technical skills to play at a higher level and if he comes here, listens and works hard then I see no reason why he wouldn’t put himself in the shop window.
“He wants to come and be given an opportunity.
“He’ll get goals I’m sure and give us more options up top.”
Bedworth United’s Midland Division game at AFC Sudbury was called off after a 1pm inspection due to a frozen pitch.
