Bedworth United boss overjoyed by keeper's loan performances

Feb 10 2012

BEDWORTH United manager Steve Farmer is overjoyed that young keeper James Martin is making a serious impact during his on-loan spell at Shepshed.

The 19-year-old achieved a rare feat for the Leicestershire club on Saturday by keeping a clean sheet, the first for Dynamo in 24 league outings – going back to a 1-0 home win over Quorn on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Martin made himself the hero at the weekend with a spate of fine stops at Newcastle Town in a 1-0 triumph that hoisted Shepshed off the foot of the table.

Farmer, who is staying faithful to another talented shot-stopper in Tom Cross, said: “James studies at Nottingham University and it’s a good move to loan him to Shepshed with it being closer to the university.

“We have two good young goalkeepers in James and Tom, who has the shirt at the moment and is a very capable keeper with a good future. There’s nothing much between the pair of them but James needs games under his belt and he’s getting valuable pitch time with Shepshed.”

Despite being just 20, Martin is the club’s longest-serving player having been on United books since he was 16.
