Assistant manager bows out at Bedworth to take on Watford scouting role

Oct 14 2011

BEDWORTH United’s assistant manager Nick Ashby has left the club to take on a senior scouting role at Championship club Watford.

His departure is a setback for Greenbacks manager Steve Farmer, who fully understands his No.2’s decision.

“Nick is passionate about his scouting and it was an offer he just couldn’t turn down and I’m chuffed for him,” said the Bedworth boss. “It’s something he loves doing and no-one is more pleased than I am. Obviously it does leave me without a No.2 but I don’t envisage bringing anyone in at the moment as I have two experienced guys among the playing staff in Ian Roper and Chris Tullin, who will be there when needed.”

On the playing front, United overcame Market Drayton Town easier than the 2-1 scoreline suggests in Saturday’s FA Trophy preliminary round tie and are now planning the home clash against Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Hednesford, who are currently fourth in their league and have won their last five outings.

“They are on a great run and will test us to the limits but it’s a game I’m really looking forward to and so should the lads,” added Farmer, who was a player under the current Pitmen bosses of Rob Smith and Harry Chalmers during his Redditch United playing career.

“We have a good relationship but I will be looking to get one over them,” he added.
