Bedworth United get new player-coach

Oct 27 2011

FORMER Nuneaton and Leamington centre-back Adam Cooper has joined Bedworth United as player coach.

The 29-year-old has been performing for Stratford Town in the Midland Combination this season but following the departure of Nicky Ashby from his number two role at the Greenbacks to Watford’s scouting set-up, Cooper has linked up with close friend Steve Farmer in the management team at the Oval.

Farmer said: “I’m really pleased Adam has agreed to join us. He has an excellent non-league playing record and knows all about the game at this level, and higher.

“He’s well respected and has good knowledge plus he’s someone I can trust implicitly. Adam is a fit lad and should he be needed to help out on the pitch then so be it, but I want him to concentrate on the coaching side.”

Cooper was in the dugout for the first time on Saturday for United’s luckless 1-0 FA Trophy defeat to higher-league Hednesford Town, leaving Farmer feeling his men deserved better.

He added: “We gave as good as we took. The boys pushed them all the way and in the last quarter they were hanging on. Their keeper has made some good stops and though we lost on the day, I was immensely proud of the team.”
