Floodlight failure proves costly for Bedworth United

BEDWORTH United were knocked off their perch at the top of the table by a combination of their first loss and floodlight failure.
A 2-1 defeat on Saturday at the hands of North Greenford United was their first of the season, while Tuesday night’s game with Woodford United was abandoned just before half-time when the lighting at The Oval went out.
The Greenbacks are now fourth in the Evo-Stik Southern League Central table, but will turn their attention to the first qualifying round of the FA Cup this weekend when they travel to Rushall Olympic.
Manager Steve Farmer said: “We were always going to lose a game of football eventually, but the manner in which we did so was disappointing.
“Maybe there was a slight bit of complacency and that can happen with a young side, and Tuesday night was about how we bounced back but obviously it wasn’t the best of circumstances, and there’s nothing we could do about that.
“Rushall will be a tough game against a good side who don’t concede many goals. About 99% of our players have never been in the FA Cup before so we can go there with no fear and try to unsettle them, and hopefully the sprinkling of more experienced players will come to the fore.”
Tom Bates looks doubtful to play any part on Saturday due to injury and Jamie Greenway is missing through suspension.
