BEDWORTH United’s grip on a top-four place is beginning to weaken after they suffered a third defeat in four league outings at the weekend.
Steve Farmer’s men lost out to an injury-time goal in the 2-1 defeat at Fleet and that has enabled the chasing pack to close within two points.
And while the loss of Ian Roper early on through injury and the sending off of assistant player-manager Adam Cooper for two bookable offences soon after the interval added to the disappointment, Farmer still remains positive.
He said: “It’s no crisis but more of a learning curve for myself and the players. This is the first time we have lost successive league games this season and that happens. It’s how we deal with it. We had seven first-teamers missing at Fleet – including Will Grocutt who pulled out late on Friday – and that’s a lot for a club like ourselves.
“I’m looking to bring in a couple of centre-halves although affording them is going to be an issue.”
Alex Dean was back in the Bedworth fold after his short stay at Nuneaton Town. The 21-year-old right-back who left the club to join Boro in early December was in the starting line-up at Calthorpe Park but he couldn’t prevent the Greenbacks losing late on.
Farmer said: “Alex has come back and it was like he hadn’t left, to be honest. He played well.”
United now face two home league games inside four days starting with Leighton on Saturday and St Neots on Tuesday.
