Assistant manager's disappointment at Nuneaton Town's single point

Jan 20 2012

KEN Gillard admitted Nuneaton Town got no more than they deserved when held to a 2-2 draw by Blue Square Bet North’s bottom club Blyth Spartans.

The Boro assistant manager was visibly frustrated by his side’s insipid display in which for the second Saturday running they had to come from behind with 10-men to salvage a share of the spoils against opposition that’s battling for survival.

Gillard said: “We were very poor and never really got into our stride. Yet again our home performance was lacking. Our passing was poor, we didn’t create that many chances and in the end we cannot complain.

“Blyth came with a plan and in the end deserved their point and had the lad put away a second-half header that looked harder to score than hit the bar when they were 2-1 in front then it could have been worse.”

But though Gillard admitted it was certainly two points lost, he’s equally adamant that Boro are still capable of achieving their promotion ambitions.

“It’s remarkable but we have dropped more points at home than we have away this season and conceded more goals as well.

“If we are going to stay in the race for the play-offs, let alone the title, then we must start getting our act together in front of our own fans.”

Twice Spartans led but they were cancelled out by Gareth Dean and a Simon Forsdick effort that somehow tunnelled under the body of keeper Matt Hunter.

James Armson’s dismissal at 2-1 down was a blow and he now faces a one-match ban that will kick in for the next home game against Vauxhall on Saturday-week.
