Delight as Andy Brown returns to Nuneaton Town

Jan 13 2012

NUNEATON Town boss Kevin Wilkin couldn’t hide his delight after capturing striker Andy Brown on an initial one-month loan deal.

AFC Telford’s Brown could stay at the Boro for the rest of the season and went straight into the starting line-up for Saturday’s game against Workington, which Boro drew 1-1.

The 25-year-old forward has already enjoyed a successful stay at Nuneaton, netting 21 goals in 37 appearances during the 2007-2008 season.

Brown said: “I’m really happy to be returning to the club that holds many fond memories for me.

“Since I left Nuneaton and joined Telford, I’ve scored a few goals against the club but that’s being professional, now I intend to add to my total of 21 the last time I was here.”

The frontman’s latest goal against Boro came in the FA Trophy tie last month when he opened their account in a 2-0 success and Wilkin believes Brown’s the man to find the scoring touch on his return after his three seasons at the Shropshire club.

Wilkin said: “To get someone of Andy’s calibre and experience is a massive coup for us and shows my intentions as regards getting promotion.

“Andy did superbly for us previously and now he’s tasted football at Conference level, I hope dropping down to Blue Square North will prove fruitful for him and the club as regards scoring goals and winning football matches.”

Club chairman Ian Neale was also overjoyed with the loan signing, adding: “Our sights are set on promotion. That’s what the board and myself want for the club. We are fully supportive of the manager and will allow him to go out and sign players of Andy Brown’s ilk.

“This shows the fans our commitment and ambition.”

Brown’s move comes after Telford brought in Bristol City’s Marlon Jackson, also on a month’s loan.
