Nuneaton Town boss in call for return of confidence

FOUR points from the last 15 is not promotion form and Nuneaton Town manager Kevin Wilkin admits his side are going through a difficult time after they drew 0-0 at Boston United at the weekend.
But despite their poor run of form since Christmas, Boro remain in the top five although their outside title hopes have all but slipped away with leaders Hyde United 17 points clear of stuttering Nuneaton as they enter a really tough month of fixtures that could define their season as one of success or disappointment in the play-off stakes.
Wilkin said: “The point at Boston was a good one as it was a game we could have lost. I accept we are not firing at present. There were opportunities on Saturday to work their keeper a lot more than we did but our finishing was not as sharp as I would like. But the conditions were very poor and for the lads to come in at half-time at 0-0 was credit to them.”
Wilkin agreed there were pluses in the performance with keeper Danny Alcock making several important saves and both Mark Albrighton and Danny Mitchley coming into the starting line-up and playing well. Skipper Mark Noon shifted back to Boro’s problem position at right-back and put in a man-of-the-match shift.
Wilkin added: “Noony was superb and adapted well to move to full-back. His tackling was excellent and he read defensive situations superbly. I was also pleased with Mitch and Brights considering they have not had too much pitch-time just lately. But we do need to start getting results quickly to get our confidence back.”
n Boro’s away game at AFC Halifax Town on February 4 will be an all-ticket affair on police advice. Entry to the Shayman’s ground is adults £12.50, concessions £9.50, 16 and under £7.50, under 12s £5, under sevens £2. Tickets will be on sale at the Triton Showers Community Arena from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and between 1pm and 3pm this Saturday before the home game against Vauxhall Motors FC.
