Nuneaton Town's shame over crushing loss to rivals
Jan 5 2012
“TOTALLY embarrassing” was how Nuneaton Town manager Kevin Wilkin defined his side’s 5-2 whipping at the hands of struggling neighbours Hinckley United.
Woeful Boro were handed their heaviest defeat of the season at the hands of the Knitters on New Year’s Day at the Triton Arena to start the new year on a disappointing note.
Wilkin admitted Boro were outfought by Dean Thomas’s underestimated outfit that was inspired by the former Town duo of the outstanding Richard Lavery and two-goal Sam Belcher.
The Nuneaton chief said: “From the very first minute we were on the back foot and made it too easy for them.
“Our defending was woeful and we lacked concentration. You cannot make the mistakes we made and expect to win games. I’m gutted for the people who paid good money to come and watch us. Players need to take responsibility and that includes myself.
