JUNIOR members from Bedworth's leading martial arts club won an impressive haul of medals at the British Junior Championships in Maidstone.Thirty seven youngsters from Sil Lum Kune took part in the event for under 17s, organised by the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts. The impressive collection of medals the team came away with consisted of 20 gold, 25 silver and 13 bronze.Held annually, the British Championships attracts clubs from all over the UK, competing to a very high standard over several different events including light contact sparring and a variety of specialist routines or ‘forms’ and weapons.Club founder and head coach Paul Burkinshaw said: "The kids have done amazingly well this year. "We took a big team down with us and it was a long day for everyone but they were very enthusiastic. All of them showed great determination and performed very well."Highlights of the day included Bodie Miles and Callum Burkinshaw who took five gold, four silver and two bronze medals between them in the under-9s.Cameron Burkinshaw won one gold and four silver in the under-12s and Karlee Maskell and Charlotte Burkinshaw headed up the girls category by sharing six golds.Karlee brought home gold in the under-12s sparring plus a further two gold medals in the forms category.
