Cash woes could put the brakes on Nuneaton rider Leon Jeacock's career

Jan 27 2012

TALENTED speed demon Leon Jeacock could see his dream of racing glory ended prematurely because of a lack of cash.

The 23-year-old from Stockingford is set to compete in his second year of professional motorcycle racing in the Metzeler Superstock 600 British Superbike support series.

But the rider is facing massive uncertainty as he searches for a new sponsor that can help him continue to follow his dream.

Leon has won a number of club championships and holds several lap records at various circuits around the UK. His team is made up of family and friends, all of whom muck in to help both financially and physically.

Jackson, who started racing at the age of three, said: “Every year I work as hard as I can to fund my sport - I have a day job too. I put everything I can into it.”

Richard Johnson, Leon’s manager, said: “I met Leon and his family last year and have been overwhelmed by his talent and dedication and felt the need to help him as much as I could.

“Late last year Leon asked me if I would help to manage his sponsorship affairs and I have been trying my best ever since. Unfortunately the economic crisis has taken its toll.”

Racing at national level is not cheap and Leon’s team is struggling to find a keen sponsor to help get him on the grid for 2012.

Johnson said: “Without the aid of a sponsor for 2012, we will struggle to make ends meet and may not be able to race at all.

“In return for financial help, we are able to promote companies using our bike and apparel as advertising space as well as providing a number of team guest passes for the events.

“The British Superbike series is the world’s largest domestic motorcycle race series which attracts crowds in excess of 30,000 people with the addition of millions of TV viewers, so can provide a large UK audience to promote brand awareness.”

If you are able to help, contact Leon at leon@leonjeacock.co.uk or Richard at richard@leonjeacock.co.uk. Richard can also be contacted on 07766 142176. To find out more about Leon’s racing career so far, go to www.leonjeacock.co.uk.
