Adders Ladies 1st 3 - 1 Blossomfield 3rds ADDERS were raring to go as they took on bottom of the league Blossomfield 3rds. Trying out a new formation, Atherstone started off with tight marking which immediately took effect and put pressure on the visitors as they constantly gave the ball back to the ladies. Despite this, Blossomfield managed to break in the first 10 minutes and a long pass found a high attacker who put away the first goal against the run of play. Adders quickly picked themselves up and an accurate pass from Lucy Varnam picked out Lucy Aldridge at the top of the D, who smacked the ball into the back of the goal to make the scores level. A number of short corners were cleared by Blossomfield but eventually they were out of luck and Dawn Orton scored an impressive goal taking the score to 2-1 at half time. In the second half Adders stuck like glue to their players and after several breaks Blossomfield couldn’t even the scores. Adders kept fighting and all their hard work paid off when Aldridge dribbled around the Blossomfield defence in the D to make the final score to 3-1. q A HASTILY assembled Adders Fathoms side grabbed their first win of the season with a solid performance at home against Wednesbury. The Adders pre-match warm up and team talk was practically non-existent, but the game started with the home side pressing hard and asking questions of the visitors all over the pitch. Courtney Gell showed why he has made the step up from the Fathoms to the first team as he put in an excellent performance on the left wing and Cameron Ford and Jon Harvey worked their socks off on the right hand side. Gell opened the scoring with a well-taken short corner strike following a period of Adders pressure. However Wednesbury came back strongly into the game and could have equalised with a short corner of their own if John Woodhead hadn’t made an excellent goal line clearance. The visitors showed moments of petulance both with each other and the umpire and this disrupted their play in the second half. And when Antony Hobbs smashed in a mishit defensive clearance the young opposition seemed to lose heart. However with five minutes to go they were rewarded with a consolation goal against the run of play. The Adders then easily ran the clock down to ensure a comfortable victory. |
