Resurgent Nuneaton side hit a stumbling block away
Dec 2 2011
Huddersfield 27 - 17 Nuneaton
NUNEATON’S recent resurgence in form was halted as they were outmatched by promotion-chasing Huddersfield in a competitive tie at Lockwood Park.
The visitors got off to a superb start with Lee Chapman slotting over a penalty in the opening minutes.
Huddersfield had the lion’s share of possession and finally made it count with a penalty from Christopher Johnson before Adam Ryder burst through the middle to score. Johnson added the extras to give his side a 10-3 lead at the interval.
The home side looked to have taken a stranglehold on the match just after the break. Heavy pressure allowed prop Alex Battye to crash over for his side’s second which Johnson converted.
Nuns were determined to bounce back and got their reward thanks to the hosts giving away a penalty try. Chapman converted to close the gap.
But, despite the visitors rallying, any signs of a comeback were quashed as Johnson added another penalty before converting substitute Ben Morrill’s try to take a 27-10 advantage with little time remaining.
Nuns did have the final word as Adam Dockray sneaked over at the death for a consolation try, which Chapman converted.
