THE Adders were left a mountain to climb after midfielder Jamie Purslow was sent off in the 15th minute for kicking out at Bedfont’s Jon-Barrie Bates in an off-the-ball incident.
The hosts defended doggedly for the rest of the half and could have taken a 19th minute lead when Tyron Amory drove over the bar from 20 yards.
The visitors went close through Gavin Hart three minutes before the break with Atherstone’s resistance broken in the 62nd minute when a ball was crossed in from the left and driven home from close range by an unmarked Russell Miner.
