NUNEATON Griff kicked off on a winning note at Brocton where an 80th-minute strike from Ryan Slinn decided a closely fought tussle at Silkmore Road.
They took the lead on seven minutes with a route one goal, keeper Andy Needham launched a long ball on the wind for Steve Flavell to burst past a static defence and chip confidently over the advancing keeper into the net.
Flavell then shot straight at the keeper when clear again but on 43 minutes the Badgers were back on terms as Needham came for a cross but was baulked by a defender and sliced his punch clear straight to Steve Whieldon, who bulged the rigging with a clinical finish.
But Slinn ensured the visitors travelled home with maximum points with a fierce 15-yarder from Ryan Millerchip’s downward header.
