Game review: Dark Messiah Might and Magic Elements (PC, Xbox 360. RRP £44.99)

RPG fun comes to the Xbox 360

By Lee Busby

Welcome to the darkside.

Not being a fan of RPG games I was a little hesitant to start off with but after the tutorial I was hooked on this dark and mysterious offering from Ubisoft.

This game plays like every fantasy novel you have ever read. The dark atmosphere of the levels, big scary monsters and the undead - not to mention the hot babes, who are a joy to look at.

The gameplay leaves your screen dripping with blood with heads being chopped off left and right, and with our hero kicking people into fires or spiked walls, it never gets old.

Talking of our hero, you have a choice of being assassin, archer, mage or, my favourite, the warrior with all his dismembering abilities.

The character development is great and with lots of items to acquire you realy want your chosen charater to get better weapons and spells. I wanted the warrior to become almost invincible so I could crush almost any force of evil with a single swipe of my broad sword.

The action is crazy, you will be casting spells and firing your bow as quick as you can in the many monster melees you encounter, and with every kill you earn points which help in the development of the main charater Sareth.

And once you have dispatched enough bad guys and your adrenaline bar has filled you can unleash the rage. Online offers great fun where you can fight against nine others or team up - ganging up with your teammates and hunting down a lone player is great fun.

With not alot of decent RPGs out there, apart from Oblivion, Dark Messiah Might and Magic Elements offers a playable and well-rounded game with a lot to do and collect. You can easly get lost in this game for hours on and off line.

I am now a converted roleplayer and will be looking out for any sequels in the future, cos chopping heads off orcs or setting them on fire is a very guilty pleasure!

Overall a welcome addition to the world of roleplaying on the Xbox 360.
