Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC. Ubisoft. RRP s49.99)
FOR girl gamers there's one truly brilliant thing about Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - and it comes right at the beginning.
Creating the soldier you want to play as, you can - gasp! - choose to be a soldier of the female variety.
It might not sound like much, but it's certainly a departure from the usual testosterone-pumped meatheads you get to take charge of.
And best of all it acknowledges that women like to blow stuff up too.
Let's face it, there's nothing like the satisfaction of nailing that headshot for the perfect kill - it's a joy that knows no gender boundaries.
Your soldier's kit is also fully customable, though the range of choice is a little dizzying and in the end I got bored and just chose all the default options.
I wanted to get into the action - and plenty there is of it, too.
Let's get this straight - this is no Call of Duty 4 when it comes to graphics or gameplay, but then what is?
It's almost like bullying the fat kid to put Rainbow Six up against such a masterpiece.
What you do get is a more strategic title, and I also found it a little more difficult, which will please hardcore gamers.
Unfortunately, you're two AI pals aren't too well-endowed in the brains department, and really aren't much use when the bullets start firing.
The ability to sprint has been added to your abilities but really, that's about in terms of differences from the original.
Well, that and the fact that there's no real Sin City vibe to the game despite the promise of showgirls and strip-life indicated by the title.
All in all, a good, solid effort. Just don't expect the bright lights to dazzle.
