A NEW comedy club has opened in Nuneaton after finding success in nearby Hinckley and is looking to attract more customers with a whole host of gags.
The Giggling Badger Comedy Club opened last week to a warm reception at the Anker Inn, Weddington Road, where more than 100 people turned up for the first night’s performance.
After attracting large crowds every Sunday in Hinckley, the organisers, father and son team Jim and Bob Smallman, felt it was time to bring the club to a venue in Nuneaton.
Jim and his dad were invited to use the pub by the owners of the pub after realising the nearest comedy venue for people in Nuneaton was an hour away.
Jim said: “We found we had success in Hinckley and because the nearest comedy clubs in the Nuneaton area are in Hinckley, Leicester or Birmingham, we decided to try it out there. It proved to be a great success and there were more people there than I thought there would be."
The first night saw the Anker Inn sold out as the three main acts for the evening, Dave “Big D” Nosely, Steve Dunne and Gary Delaney were joined by host and MC Jim Smallman.
Landlord of the Nuneaton pub, Andy Wilson, said because of his long friendship with Bob Smallman, he was happy to invite the comedy club to his premises.
He described how pleased he was with the opening night and was happy to say there are more evenings planned.
Andy said: “It was a real success. I was delighted and surprised to be honest.
“Because it was so good in Hinckley we just gave it our best shot and now we have six nights booked up. We will be running it for 10 months of the year. “
