Triple treat in store at Coventry Jazz Festival

May 15 2008

By Emma Ray

COVENTRY'S Jazz Festival holds a triple treat in store for music fans when the BBC Big Band is accompanied by Liane Carroll and Alan Barnes.

The music spectacular, on Friday, May 23 at the Belgrade Theatre, will be recorded for BBC Radio 3s popular Jazz Line Up.

The Big Band has graced the stage alongside greats such as Ray Charles and Van Morrison and newer artists like James Morrison and Amy Winehouse.

The band was formed in 1928 in its original guise as the BBC Dance Orchestra and kept the masses entertained during the war years.

Since becoming the BBC Big Band in the swinging sixties it has repeatedly been voted the best big band in the highly-acclaimed British Jazz awards.

Londoner Liane Carroll has wowed the jazz world with her singing, piano and composing talents and she currently tours with her own trio, including husband Roger Carey.

Liane, who headlined at Glastonbury Festivals World Jazz Stage last year, has worked with greats such as Gerry Rafferty, Long John Baldry and Sir Paul McCartney, and she is a regular at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club.

Saxophonist Alan Barnes is hugely popular on both the British and international jazz scene and completes an entertaining trio for the Coventry Jazz Festival the tenth organised by CV One.

Jo Grimshaw, press and PR co-ordinator for CV One, said: This years line up is as exciting as ever and we are thrilled to be presenting the BBC Big Band with Liane Carroll and Alan Barnes.

Jazz fans have come to expect great things from the Coventry Jazz Festival and we are sure this performance will not disappoint.

We are expecting another record turn-out for this years event. When ticket details are released we expect performances such as this one to sell quickly so music fans should be quick to make sure they dont miss this treat.

Coventry Jazz Festival 2008, which is organised by CV One, is supported by Coventry City Council and the European Regional Development Fund.

It is being held in association with the Coventry Telegraph, the Isle casino, Belgrade Plaza, Oakmoor Estates, Deeley Properties, Coventry University and IKEA.
