Tim is the Civic Hall's new act

Aug 8 2008

By Emma Ray

A NEW act is being introduced at the Civic Hall in Bedworth to coincide with the new autumn season.

Tim Norton, currently carrying out the duties of principal marketing and projects officer with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, has been appointed Civic Hall manager following the departure of Paul Pomfret.

He takes up his post in September.

Tim said: When the post became vacant this time around it didnt take too much deliberation for me to consider applying for the job.

"The Civic Hall has such a strong reputation for its innovative and creative programme of events.

"Having the opportunity to become part of a team which delivers such diverse entertainment as community shows and concerts to the CBSO, The Band of HM Royal Marines to the Christmas Pantomime, will be a real eye opener I am sure."

Before joining the council Tim toured in repertory theatre performing everything from modern pieces to Shakespeare, musicals to comedy.

From there he worked at the Phoenix Arts Centre in Leicester heading up the marketing department and front of house.

Since joining Nuneaton and Bedworth in the late 1980s Tim has been part of a team which has delivered many diverse corporate, civic and promotional events around the borough including the freedom of the borough, civic parades, Nuneaton Carnival, Christmas light switch ons, street entertainment and festivals.

Cllr Des O'Brien, cabinet member for culture and recreation, said: "The arts have always been an integral part of the boroughs community profile.

"The Civic Hall has, for a number of years, played host to many community and professional shows.

"The coming seasons programme reflects that continued commitment. We are very proud of the team at the Civic Hall and are certain that Tims background and experience will enhance its reputation.

"We predict exciting times for the Civic Hall in the future and are sure the residents of the borough will continue to support this prestigious venue."

Tim added: "The Civic Hall is perfectly placed to lead on the promotion of and developments in the arts, the facilities provided to service users and performers are as good as anywhere regionally.

"This was highlighted when in 2005 the Civic Hall received the Godiva Award for Best Live Venue.

"It is my ambition along with Cllr OBrien and the team at Civic Hall to once again see the Civic Hall in its rightful place at the top of the Godiva Awards as it is a venue with a heart. "Indeed the slogan Art with a Heart is one which will be recurring in our future marketing campaigns."
