B&Q creating 150 jobs in Rugby

Feb 6 2008

PLANS have been approved for a new DIY store and garden centre in Rugby, creating up to 150 jobs.

The 6,000sq metre store -about the same size as Sainsbury's in Dunchurch Road - is to be built on a vacant site in Leicester Road, between Forum Drive and Elliott's Field.

B&Q is keen to move in but rivals Wickes and Homebase, who already have stores at Elliott's Field, may also be interested.

A new access road in Leicester Road would make the T-junction into a crossroads.

Eric Hall, planning director of Castlemore Securities, which owns the land, said: "We have been, and are in, talks with B&Q, but nothing has been agreed or finalised as yet. Similar schemes elsewhere have created 150 full and part-time jobs."

A condition of the permission is that construction on the store must begin in the next two years.
