Store with 'wow factor' is praised

Sep 10 2007

A COVENTRY convenience store is leading the way in its group after a major facelift.

Costcutter, in Elm Tree Avenue, Tile Hill, was refurbished in March, with features including 24 metres of fridges for food and drinks and new fixtures, fittings and lighting.

The facelift took three weeks, during which time the shop remained open to customers - and didn't suffer a drop in trade.

For that, and an increase in trade after the facelift, the family-run franchise was featured at Costcutter's national conference, held on Saturday in Marbella.

It is being cited as an example for other shops across the country to follow.

Owner Malcolm Cheema, whose family have owned the store for 22 years, said: "I am over the moon.

"It has been going down really well. We spent a whole year researching it before we did it.

"The aim was to give the customers a better perspective of the shop - to make it more customer friendly and bring it more up-to-date.

"It worked - when customers walk through the door they say 'wow!'"

The store employs six staff.
